MF DOOM & Nujabes - Metaphorical Villainy (2020)

Stream/Digital: alteredcrates.bandcamp.com

"This is a special presentation for MF DOOM fans... The available DOOM acapellas have been remixed so many times before, we needed something fresh; so this mashup features only previously unreleased and un-used acapellas, created solely for this project. Combining them with many little-known B-side productions and remix instrumentals from Nujabes, we're reaching into untouched clouds.

This is also a special presentation for Altered Crates... the idea for this mashup (and the Jay Electronica tape) was the main inspiration behind the creation of Altered Crates.

BadFX & SonoTWS - Together (2020)

Stream/Digital: tiredofpeople.co

BadFX, Jamaican/London Emcee from the collective Omniverses hooked up with Brazilian producer extraordinaire SonoTWS to create this masterpiece which is probably his greatest lyrical contribution to hip hop thus far.

Together explores various subject matters in a deeper way than BadFX has ever put forward before such as love, crime, money, society, death as well as just displaying his usual explosive flow having fun with it all in a boastful way at the same time. The perfect rustic boom bap sound Sono brings complements it all with hard hitting drum patterns and airy, soulful samples.

All songs produced by SonoTWS (@sonotws)
All songs written by BadFX (@badfx)

Mixed by: Tiago Frugoli (@tiagofrugoli)
Mastered by: Figub Brazlevič (@figubbrazlevic)

Artwork by: Elijah Anderson (@spacehose)

Yaggfu Front ‎– The Secret Tapes (1991 / 2020)

If you never heard the line “It’s the Yaggfu Front, freakin’ all the stunts, steppin’ with the loot and hittin’ the blunts” then you weren’t checkin’ for hip hop music in the 90’s. That ‘Busted Loop’ 12″ and the b-side ‘Slappin’ Suckas Silly [Remix]’ was in most hip hop dj’s selections. A dance floor sureshot with the aside and it’s instrumental, plus a rugged downtempo heater with classic quotableS on the flip – what more could you want? The album, which I consider to be a classic, was jammed full of some of the nicest breaks and beats used during that period. There were many slept-on album tracks, as the single vinyl EU pressing [the only non-promo vinyl version] was a classic 90’s single vinyl album [low volume] pressing! Even though the vinyl was a bit of a wash out, the album made 200,000 sales – which in anyone’s book should be considered a glowing success. What we have here for your listening pleasure, are a bunch of joints from 1991 up until the later stuff in 2001 that never got a proper release at the time. Eight tracks can be found on the now out of press cd compilation from 2002 and two, which would’ve been on the debut [and only] Yaggfu album, are here in all their glory for the very first time. This selection goes a long way to proving that the Yaggfu Front should’ve been a MUCH “bigger” group than history will most likely tell, and for me, they are dope AF. Enjoy!!!

Tracklist:

A1 Roll Wit The Yaggfu
A2 Plastic Fantastic
A3 Walk Around Town Aka Thinking Caps
A4 Fling-A-Ling Style
A5 Jump On It

B1 Future Shock
B2 Hard Headed Niggaz
B3 Listen Feat. Esau The Anti Emcee
B4 TOP SECRET TRACK
B5 TOP SECRET TRACK

All tracks produced by Yaggfu Front except B3 which is produced by Phatboy with additional production by Yaggfu Front.

Bobby Obsy - Robo Boy (2020)

Nick Poulianitis a.k.a. Bobby Obsy is a London-based music producer and designer. His beats are grounded in sample-based sounds, with the help of vintage samplers, synthesizers and live bass. His career as a designer complements his music persona; all character creation and concept art (including for this ‘Robo Boy’ release) is done by himself. His vision is to create new sci-fi worlds through music and design.

Bobby Obsy’s debut album ‘Rusty Gate’, was released digitally in 2018 via Vinyl Digital. This led to a successful campaign on Qrates done on his own, with since then vinyl copies available at HHV, Vinylism, and Jet Set Records in Kyoto & Tokyo. His debut release led to live sets in Amsterdam, London, the Reworks Festival in Greece, and to another vinyl feature on The Find Mag’s ‘Jazzvolution Chapter Two.’

The groove patterns on ‘Robo Boy’ never stay the same. You’ll notice metallic sound design from his trusty MPC & Ensoniq 12-bit sampler, pixelated transitions from his SP-404, dreamy galactic melodies, and his favorite jazzy bass melodies.

Bobby Obsy: “The reason why I care so much about just three tracks—investing my time building on a solid concept and creating bespoke illustrations—is only because of the over-saturated market in instrumental hip-hop. This release is a statement.

“My mentor and great friend, Propo’88, showed me the true, real way of taking care of business when it comes to music production, paying for mixing and mastering, as well as investing in good cover art. I have to give him credit for that and I believe that this is how every artist should approach his or her work. That’s what I tried to evoke by working on an entire concept for ‘Robo Boy.’”
