The long-awaited Alecs In Japan finally lands on November 6th. 14 cuts 100% sampled from records (mainly Japanese artists) picked up on my journey around Japan last summer.
A labour of love in the truest sense, the crate journeyed with me across Japan, growing in volume after each Shinkansen stop. A box of gems from busy Shibuya spots to hidden treasure troves in Onomichi.
After lugging this huge stack of vinyl halfway across the globe, I fired up the technics, blew the dust off my S950 and got to work.
The resulting album explores a variety of styles, from frantic boom bap to smokey attic head nodders. Synergising folk-rock with city pop; blunted breaks with 80’s drum machines.
With many records from the stack still unexplored, rumour has it there's already a sequel in the works…
Stay clean, kids, and turn this shit up.
Much love to all the record store owners that dropped knowledge, Hiro from Yado Curly for the inspiration and 45s, and most of all CJ, for without you none of this would have been possible.
