This is the Dog. The 7th installment of the Koreatown oddity's Chinese New Year Instrumental Series. Each tape respresents one of the 12 animals on the Chinese Zodiac Calender. All music on each tape is inspired by the energies felt throughout that animals year as we leave it into the next. The series began in 2012 with the dragon and will end in 2024 when we arrive at the dragon again. None of the tapes will be repressed until 2024.

4 years after the release of “Midnite Ride”, one of Brenk Sinatra’s most cohesive albums, fans and music connoisseurs now have every reason to be excited about this instrumental classic‘s sequel.
It was never really possible to box Brenk‘s detailed production work into a specific category. It’s the same this time: “Midnite Ride II” is building bridges between Boom-Bap and Trap music, two sub-genres that all too often seemed to be impossible to unite in the past.
The album resonates with Brenk‘s current state of mind like none of his previous projects regarding sound aesthetic. Nevertheless, “Midnite Ride II” delivers a seamless sequel to the first part of the series while at the same time opening up completely new spheres within the sound universe that the beat authority from Vienna lives in.

Straight out of Dublin comes the accomplished beat-maestro The Expert. Inspired by golden-era giants like The Rza, Pete Rock, and Large Professor — as well as new school titans Oddisee, Exile, and Eric Lau — The Expert got his start in the Irish Choice Prize-nominated duo Messiah J & The Expert. In 2015, The Expert broke out on his own with the renowned album Dynamic Drift and collaborations with the likes of Tanya Morgan, Zilla Rocca and Has-Lo.
Now The Expert arrives at Cold Busted with Excursions, a 20-track exploration of smooth instrumental hip-hop for the mind and soul. The album is a laid-back journey filled with intricate nuances and sublime rhythm constructions. With Ground & Water, Blu and Damu The Fudgemunk have released yet another standout project as part of their already-incredibly noteworthy catalogues. But this time, they’ve done it together. After collaborating in different ways over the years, the two joined forces for a release that’s every bit as dope as you’d hope considering who’s involved. From the Los Angeles rapper’s tight-as-ever rhymes to the Washington, D.C. native’s crunchy production, Ground & Water captures exactly why Blu and Damu are so revered.
For Damu, that meant diving into the storied discography of his new partner-in-rhyme. While the producer always thought highly of the emcee’s talents, he says he realized that Blu’s much greater than people give him credit for. That led to the excitement of creating Ground & Water, because Damu knew he’d get to tell a story through a cohesive release. The story is one that treads personal, introspective territory that Blu delivers like only he can.
On standout track “Share The Love,” Blu and guest Raw Poetic (one of Damu’s frequent collaborators) tackle the dusty, meditative production with thoughtful raps about wanting to see the world in a better place with inspirational lines like, "Stop being so tight, and be more lovable/ I guarantee more opportunities open up for you." “When you listen to the lyrics and digest the subject matter, there's a lot of depth in his words,” Damu says of his collaborator. “I wanted to provide a similar depth in the music.” To say he matched Blu’s efforts would be an understatement, which you could find out for yourself right now, by heading over to your preferred digital retailer or streaming platform and giving the project a spin. When rumors spread months ago that Skyzoo had begun working on a collaborative project with the iconic Pete Rock it quickly set social media aflame. While details were scant, Mello Music Group is happy to finally reveal the details and officially announce Skyzoo & Pete Rock’s new album, Retropolitan, with Billboard who premiered the lead single It’s All Good.
It’s All Good finds Skyzoo skating over a beat from Pete’s secret “SP-1200 stash,” and this one in particular was produced in 1994 around the same time as Pete's Illmatic sessions with Nas.
Retropolitan includes 12-tracks, all produced by Pete Rock, with features from Styles P, Benny The Butcher, Conway, Westside Gunn, Elzhi, and Raheem DeVaughn.

Harkening back to a simpler time when hip-hop was comprised of party rhymes and recognizable sounds, the almighty S Brothers are here with a maxi-single-style release that will have you dusting off your Walkman. Luke Sick (Sacred Hoop, Grand Invincible) and Doug Surreal (Jack Spaar, Motel Crew), two Bay Area underground hip-hop vets, approached this project as a way to pay homage to the Megamix era of hip-hop, about 1988-1991. Beyond just a good listening experience, well-versed hip-hop heads will have fun spotting all of the various references and callbacks to classic jams.
